What I learned at Target

I'm pretty lucky to have a Target just a few minutes down the road. It means that I can pop over whenever I need to for those few special items only they sell. I try to be focused and quick, getting in and out before my eyes start to wander.

Now that the stage is set...

As I approach the building, I notice like 100 carts outside chained up. Weird but o.k. Inside there are still carts, so things are good.

I get my cart, begin to push it and HOLY COW! This is not the same old cart! Sure it looks almost identical, but it's AMAZING. They must have hired some engineering genius to make the wheels quieter, smoother, and easier to push.

I never thought I would love a shopping cart, but I do!

This got me thinking of all the times in our lives we just live with things because that's how it is - That's how it's supposed to act! - It works so why try to make it better? When we could be working, thinking, dreaming of making things AMAZING!

Look around your house right now, what are some things you're living with just because it works? How would your house feel if you made changes based on a dream of what you WANTED your house to look like?

How about your clothes? What's stopping you from being in love with the clothes you wear? Forget what you're "supposed" to wear and give some thought to what you dream of feeling like in your outfits. Why because you are expressing what's on the inside out! And that creates an AMAZING amount of confidence.

Now, look at your day-to-day life. I know this is a biggie. Most of us live with things because that's just the way it is (usually adding "right now") This leaves us feeling angry, guilty for being angry and like a victim of circumstance. That my friends is NOT an AMAZING life.

So what are you going to do about it? Clearly, there are changes that need/should be made but if you don't realize you're settling, then nothing will happen.

So start small, start with the house, then your clothes and as you do mull over the areas in your life. Write them down, (key to not rehashing things to remember them) and when you are ready begin to make the changes to each thing on your list.

Maybe it's living your values -- learning to forgive -- changing careers -- raising your kids the way you want -- cutting yourself slack -- letting go of control -- learning another language -- taking more trips. The ideas are endless because with each change you will become energized to do something else.

So what did Target teach me? - Stop settling for things just because.

Make your wishes and dreams a reality and you will have an AMAZING LIFE.
